District Tournament III - Runner Up

Franklin 9, Independence 3
The Rebels were hot with their bats in the first game of the evening to end Independence's run in the district tournament. They scattered 11 hits with Brandon Robertson, Jake Little, Alex Bennorth, Pat Raley and Jesse Gavigan all getting two hits apiece. The game was close early on but with John Boesch throwing out a runner from Right Field at the plate for a double play, the momentum changed with the Rebels next at bat and they took the lead for good. Alex Bennorth pitched the complete game for the Win.

Franklin 4, Ravenwood 6
The Rebel's tournament run came to an end against Ravenwood in the second game of the night. Jake Little's lead off home run followed with hits by Boesch Bein, and Raley for a two run early lead. Ravenwood came back and led 6-2 after the first. Franklin was unable to catch back up even with additional hits by Raley, Boesch, Bein, and Gavigan. Matt Payne's relief effort was outstanding, keeping Ravenwood from scoring the rest of the game.

Franklin's fine play earned them the Runner-up spot in the District 11AAA tournament.

Good luck to all the seniors as they move on to the next stages of their lives, they will be missed.

District Tournament II

The Rebels live to play another day with an exciting come from behind 6-5 victory over Centennial. Franklin jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning keyed by Jake Little's double and RBI. In the third inning a couple of errors in the field and some Cougar hits and Franklin was behind 2-4. Centennial scored again a few innings later and had a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th.

The rain started to come down a little harder and the Franklin offense took advantage of it with some walks and a single with RBI by Jess Gavigan. John Boesch came to the plate with two outs and generated a single and drove in two runs to tie the game. Pat Raley followed up with a walk-off single to drive in the winning run and finish the game. Ryan Mason was the starting pitcher and pitched strong through five innings while Kevin Bein came in as relief and earned the Win for the game.

District play continues tomorrow, weather permitting with the Rebels playing to stay alive.

District Tournament I

The Rebels lost their opening tournament game to Centennial 4-3 on Friday. The Cougars scored 4 runs in the first inning and Franklin was unable to catch although they stranded more than 10 base runners during the game. Centennial did make some great defensive plays on hard hit balls by the Rebels to keep their lead intact. The highlight for the Rebels was Alex Bennorth's relief outing where he allowed only one hit and no runs for 6 1/3 innings.

Franklin entered the loser's bracket of the double elimination tournament knowing that a win was needed to keep the season going, and they delivered offensively and defensively with a 6-2 win over Brentwood to finish the Bruin's season. The bats were hot for eleven hits on the evening, including two hits apiece by, J.J. Gavigan, John Boesch, Pat Raley, and Brandon Robertson. The defense played strong throughout the game to support a superb outing from pitcher Brandon Robertson. Robertson pitched the complete game for the Win, limiting Brentwood to 6 hits for the night.

Tournament play resumes Monday against Centennial, 4:30 at Independence HS.

Franklin Doubleheader Sweep over Hillsboro
The Rebels enjoyed Senior Recognition night by completing their District series sweep of Hillsboro to finish 4th in the regular season. With Charlie Bateman's rendition of the National Anthem to provide extra motivation, Franklin won the first game 7-2 and the second game 12-0.

Jake Little led the offense going 5 for 5 with three triples, a single, and a home run. Kevin Bein earned the W for the first game and Ryan Mason for the second.

The Rebels finish their regular season next Tuesday against Lipscomb and then will begin the district tournament where the season starts again.

Franklin 9, Hillsboro 2

The Rebels started off the top of the first with 4 runs and that was all they really needed for the series opener against the Burros. Franklin had 9 hits in the game including a single and triple for Jake Little, a single and double for Kevin Bein, and a home run for Austin Sistrunk.

Taylor Berzina pitched the first four innings for the Win. Alex Bennorth relieved in the 5th for the save. The series resumes tomorrow night at Franklin for the Seniors' Night recognition.

Franklin 7, Mt. Juliet 6

The Rebels got back on track tonight with an exciting come from behind, 7th inning victory against a tough Bearcat team. Brandon Robertson got the start and delivered a strong performance for the complete game win.

Offensively, the Rebels had eight hits for the evening including two hits from both Jake Little and Kevin Bein. Bein also had two RBI's with his timely hit in the 3rd. Kyle Grider had one hit but more importantly two sacrifice bunts which resulted in one run in the 1st and two runs in the 7th to win the game. The Rebels return to district play at Hillsboro on Monday.

It was the Kevin Bein Show for the Rebels in tonight's game. Bein pitched an excellent game allowing very few earned runs and offensively he had two home runs. Jess Gavigan also continued his streak with two more hits.

The Rebels play again Friday at Cheek Park against Mt. Juliet.

The Rebels suffered their second defeat to Brentwood in district play. Brentwood's offense was on a roll, hitting the ball hard and away from the defense.

The Rebels offense was able to generate only one run off of 6 hits. Jake Little and JJ Gavigan led the offense with two hits apiece. The Rebels conclude the series Wednesday night back at Cheek Park.

The Bruins won the first game of the District series with their ace pitcher on the mound and a number of scouts in attendance. The Rebels took an 2-1 lead in the first inning with three hits but that was all the runs their offense could generate against tough pitching. Franklin sophomore pitcher Alex Bennorth had a strong complete game outing, limiting Brentwood to just four runs.

The series moves to Brentwood Tuesday night for what should be an exciting match-up.

Franklin 9, Lavergne 3
April 16, 2010

The Rebels took a 2-1 lead in the first inning and just built on it through the rest of the game. The bats were working and generated 11 hits for the game. Kyle Grider, Kevin Bein, and Jesse Gavigan had two hits apiece while Jake Little had three hits; a single, double, and triple.

Ryan Mason pitched 5 strong innings for the win and Carter Brewer came in the 6th to close the game down. The Rebel defense also had three double plays during the game, including one in the bottom of the 4th with bases loaded and one out to prevent a Lavergne rally.

The Rebels return to district play at home Monday against Brentwood.

Special Note: In the earlier JV game, Brandon Spierto went yard for his first high school home run!

Franklin 2, Independence 9
The Rebels struggled in the first inning letting up 9 runs and were unable to catch up after that. Offensively, Franklin's bats were kept quiet, only three hits on the night but they were able a couple runs. The bright spot of the evening was Sophomore Brandon Robertson's relief pitching holding Indy scoreless for five innings. EVen though the Rebels District regular season record is not looking too good right now, they still have the opportunity and ability to make a strong run during tournament time.

The Rebels took the lead early in the game and were up 3-0 after three innings. In the fourth inning, Indy started hitting and combined with some defensive issues, they scored 5 runs and took the lead for good. In the innings to follow, the Rebels were able to get some base runners but were unable to convert them into runs. For the night, the Rebels offense was held to six hits. Franklin travels back to Independence tomorrow for the final game of the series.

Independence won the first game of the 3-game series with very strong pitching that shut out Franklin's offense. The Rebel's Austin Crowe and John Boesch got the team's only official hits. Although he came up on the losing end of the outing, Joey Falletta pitched great, limiting Indy to only three runs. The second game of the series moves to Franklin tomorrow evening.

Franklin 7, Oakland 3

The first game after spring break and the Rebels started strong with a win against Oakland. Keeping the Oakland batters guessing with his mix of pitches, Ryan Mason had a great complete game outing for the win.

Offensively, the Rebels were hot with 12 hits. Jake Little, Kyle Grider, and Pat Raley each had two hits while Jesse Gavigan had three hits for the day. Even the bunting was working well, helping advance and score some of the five runs in the second inning. The Rebels return to District play on Monday with a 3-game series against Independence.

Franklin 8, Polk County 7
April 3, 2010

The first half of the season ended and spring break began with an exciting and crazy late night win in the Rebel's final game of the Warrior Classic. It became a very emotional game with some questionable calls, inconsistent strike zone, and another Grider headball. The fans even had some special attire to help the team.

Joey Falletta pitched well the first five innings and despite being behind in the score for a while, left the game with it all tied up at 6-6. The Rebels left a number of runners on base but were able to get enough across the plate to even things in the fifth. The Rebel bats were led by Kevin Bein and Kyle Grider, each with two hits, and Austin Sistrunk and Pat (Racey) Raley with three hits apiece.

Alex Bennorth came in as relief and for the eventual win in the sixth. After Polk County scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Rebel bats had to rally again. With two outs and Joey Falletta on third base, Pat Raley delivered to drive in the tying run. Brandon Robertson running for Pat then scored the lead run on a Kevin Bein single. The bench was the noisiest it has ever been during the 7th inning rally, even the umpire tried to quiet them down, which did not work.

The Rebels resume play next Saturday against Oakland.

Warrior Classic Part I
The Rebels have struggled in their first two outings in the weekend tournament. The opening game they faced a very strong Riverdale pitcher who held them hitless until the 6th inning when Parker Cantrell got a hit for Franklin. In the second game against Dyers County their opponents bats were very hot.

However, there were a some positives for the Rebels. Kevin Bein pitched a strong relief outing against Riverdale and was his normal strike out form. Against Dyers County, some of the bats started working including Jake Little, Austin Sistrunk, and Jesse Gavigan each had two strong hits apiece.

The Rebels continue play in the weekend tournament tomorrow against Smyrna and Polk County, weather permitting.

Franklin 3, Centennial 4
March 31, 2010

Franklin lost tonight but was able to take two out of three against Centennial in the district series. Jesse Gavigan stayed hot at the plate and accounted for three of Franklin's seven hits. The Rebels play four games in the Warrior Spring Classic starting tomorrow night.

Franklin 15, Centennial 11
Things did not start out well for the Rebels when they spotted Centennial with 5 unearned runs in the first inning. Fortunately, the bats started to work tonight and Franklin was able to begin chipping away at the lead in the bottom of the first. By the end of three the Rebels were down by just one run. In the fourth, the gates opened wide led by Austin Sistrunk's home run and Franklin scored nine runs to take a 13 to 5 lead. In the sixth inning, the defense faltered again and allowed another 5 runs but they still had a 15-10 lead.

Matt Payne pitched five strong innings to earn the win, and Brandon Robertson pitched the final two innings for the save. The Rebels play Centennial again tomorrow evening at Centennial for the third game of the series.

Franklin 4, Centennial 3

A late Rally by the Rebels and a strong complete game outing by Joey Falletta earned Franklin the win in the first game of the three game series.

The Rebel offense came alive in the top of the 7th when they were losing 3-0. It started with John Boesch being hit to get on first. Austin Sistrunk followed that by drawing a walk so the Rebels had two base runners. Pat Raley singled up the middle to drive in Franklin's first run of the game. Pinch hitter Alex Bennorth then singled to left driving in two runs, and Bennorth was able to advance to third on the play. With the game now tied at 3-3, Joey Falletta layed down the suicide squeeze bunt to score the lead run. Falletta then finished the game off in the seventh.

Centennial visits Franklin tomorrow night for the second game of the series.

Franklin 8, Station Camp 6

The Rebels ended their slide with a win in the final game of the Wilson County Invitational. With Boesch (Bosh) and Gavigan (Galligan) continually having their names incorrectly pronounced over the PA, the team shook things up, even using a jersey number change to help generate the victory.

Ryan Mason looked strong and pitched the complete game for the Win. Offensively, the Rebels were able to generate 8 runs, with Kevin Bein's 3-run homer in the 2nd being the highlight for the offense. Franklin resumes district play on Monday against cross town rival Centennial.

Franklin 2, Creekwood 4
March 27, 2010

Franklin jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning sparked by Jake Little's tripple. After that, the offense was fairly quiet and it was up to Brandon Robertson and the defense to maintain the lead. Robertson pitched strong through 5 innings but Creekwood was able to tie it in the bottom of the fifth at 2-2. Robertson ran into problems in the 6th inning and the team let up two runs and was not able to counter in the 7th.

Franklin 3, Mt. Juliet 4
The Rebels lost a tough battle against Mt Juliet in their opening game of the Wilson County Invitational. Carter Brewer pitched six strong innings keeping the Mt Juliet batters guessing with his mix of pitches. Offensively, the Rebels faced a tough Mt. Juliet pitcher who had a perfect game going into the sixth inning but was spoiled by Brandon Robertson. The Rebels ended up scoring three runs in the sixth, including two from Jake Little's opposite field home run.


Franklin - Ravenwood Double Header
March 24, 2010

Ravenwood swept the doubleheader and the series against the Rebels. Ravenwood's bats were hitting the ball well throughout both games while the Rebel's offense was very quiet.

Franklin is scheduled to play in the Mt Juliet Invitational this weekend and then is back in District play next week against Centenial.

District 11-AAA play started for the Rebels tonight with a tough loss at Ravenwood. With Joey Falletta as Frankin's starter keeping Ravenwood quiet and the Rebels unable to score, the game was scoreless after 3 innings. Ravenwood produced a run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. In the top of the 5th, Franklin came right back to score 3 runs with a series of hits and walks. During the bottom of the 5th, Austin Crowe made an ESPN highlight catch in deep right field to keep the score at 3-1.

After pitching five strong innings, Falletta ran into problems in the 6th and Ravenwood took the lead 3-5 before he was relieved. Franklin was unable to get any type of rally going in the 7th to make a come back. Fortunately with district play, these two teams will face each other again tomorrow in a double header at Franklin starting at 4:30.

Franklin 4, Columbia 5
March 20, 2010

Franklin suffered their first loss of the season in an exciting extra inning game in Columbia. Carter Brewer pitched well through the first four innings and allowed just two runs. Ryan Mason also pitched two strong innings allowing one more run.

Franklin struggled offensively against a strong Columbia pitcher but in the top of the 6th when they changed pitchers, the Rebel bats came alive for three runs and a 4-3 lead. Unfortunately, Columbia tied it up in the bottom of the 7th. Franklin could not score in the top of the 8th and Columbia scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th.

Jesse Gavigan led the Franklin offense with two hits. The highlight of the game was Gavigan's 3rd inning triple which he took advantage of a Columbia error and used his speed to score on the same play.

Franklin starts district play on Monday against Ravenwood, weather permitting.

Franklin 7, Columbia 4

The Rebels kept their early season streak alive tonight with another win. Columbia jumped out to an early lead on starting pitcher Brandon Robertson but when he finished after four innings, Franklin was in the lead for good. Matt Payne came in and pitched three innings without letting up a run to earn the save.

Offensively, the Rebels had nine hits on the evening. Grider, Sistrunk, and Bein each had two hits to lead the offense.

The Rebels travel to Columbia on Saturday to complete the series. Varsity is at 12 and JV will follow at 2:30.

Franklin 4, Lavergne 2
Franklin held onto a victory against a tough Lavergne team. The Rebels took the lead with Kyle Griders lead off triple and excellent base running in the first inning. After that they were able to get base runners most innings against some good Lavergne pitching and maintain a small lead.

Taylor Berzina started the game and pitched four strong innings to earn the Win. He got himself out of a bases loaded jam in the 4th to keep the lead. Alex Bennorth pitched three strong innings to get the save. Lavergne had the tying run on second at the top of the 7th but was not able to score.

Franklin plays again tomorrow against Columbia, JV @ 4:30 and Varsity @ 7:00.

Franklin 9, BGA 0

The Rebels scored early and often with a high energy offense and held BGA scoreless in their 2010 season opener.

Joey Falletta received the win and Kevin Bein the save for this combined effort shutout. Both of them looked very strong for their first outings. On the offensive side, the Rebels had sixteen hits and scored at least one run in five of their six innings at bat.

Next game is Wednesday at home versus Lavergne.
